Problem
ExpressJet’s intranet was hosted with one of their business partners, and when that relationship ended, NIIT was tasked with recreating their intranet on their own Sharepoint server. In addition to migrating all the content, the site also needed a redesign and updated information architecture.
Strategy/Approach
– Worked with the client to identify the scope of the redesign.
– Planned the information architecture, research, and design deadlines with the NIIT team.
Research
– Conducted card sort exercises with over 25 users and stakeholders to determine their mental model of the content.
– Worked with the ExpressJet brand manager to ensure the brand goals were aligned with the look and feel and user experience.
– Worked with the Sharepoint technical expert to understand the capabilities and limitations of designing on the platform.
– Conducted interviews with stakeholders and users to understand the business and the important content.
Design
– Created a new information architecture and site map.
– Created an on-brand style guide for the new look and feel.
– Designed a responsive home page, and responsive content templates to ensure tablet and phone access to the site’s content.
– Designed responsive landing pages for the top level navigation items.
